Arden name a turtle

Meet Mary Arden, turtle.

Back in June Arden Divers headed off to Sharm el Sheikh for a fabulous couple of weeks of diving. While we were there several of us, notably Sophie and Will, encountered a female hawksbill turtle on Ras Ghamilla. Both Sophie and Will being keen photographers a good selection of photographs were taken. Eager to support research and conservation of marine life, Sophie submitted some of the photos to TurtleWatch, who do a great job of tracking turtle sightings around the Red Sea.

It turns out that this particular turtle had not been seen before, so our divers were lucky enough to get to name her. They decided to name her after one of the Forest of Arden’s most famous daughters—Mary Arden, mother of William Shakespeare.

By happy coincidence, this is also the name of the pub that Arden Divers meet up at every Wednesday, the Mary Arden Inn 🙂
